Call For Advance Readers!
Hello Friends,
As I have announced, I will release the next book in the Headcase series, The Inevitable, in serialized form on Substack later this summer.
I am looking for 4 to 7 “Advance Readers” to help me review my content and submit feedback before the “episodes” are released on Substack.
Readers who DID NOT read Shock & Denial are welcome to apply, as I want to see if you can jump into The Inevitable without reading Shock & Denial and still follow the story and connect with the characters.
What is the role of the Advance Reader?
Every Wednesday, you receive one or more chapters or “episodes” to review and give feedback to the author (me!).
You have two weeks to review and get your feedback in.
The chapters will average from 1,500 to 2,500 words (3-5 pages).
I have 35 episodes completed. I will send them three at a time. If you can only get feedback on 1 episode in the two weeks, that is okay; you’re doing me a favor! Whatever you can do is appreciated.
Feedback can include typos, edits, questions about the characters’ motives, story continuity, comments on length, and clarity—all comments, whether positive or negative, big or minute, are welcomed and encouraged. I want my work to be the best it can be. There is no “pride in authorship” here, and “edit without mercy” is my mantra!
Timeliness: The key is getting your feedback within two weeks, so I have enough time to make changes and meet publishing dates.
I am obligated to you to address every comment you make and update you on what I did with your comments pre-release of the episode.
What is in it for the Advance Reader?
A free premium subscription which includes bonus content and a free copy of the Shock & Denial ebook.
You can impact the story, characters, and direction based on your feedback.
I take your input seriously, and in the past, I have made significant changes based on readers’ feedback. See my acknowledgments in Shock & Denial.
Public recognition - I will acknowledge the Advanced Readers and specifically mention helpful feedback to the episode in the “show notes.”
If so inclined, I will name a character after you (or another person if we get their permission). I cannot guarantee whether they will be a “good guy,” a “bad guy,” or an “extra,” but I will create a character with your name. I’ve already used one person whose wife and he helped me with my research in the UK for Robbie’s character, so I named a baseball player after him. John Palmer gets angry and throws a pitch at him, intending to hit him.
My endless thanks and appreciation! I appreciate your selfless donation of your time, energy, and enthusiasm!
I’m ready to send out the first three episodes this week as soon as I get my team together.
You can volunteer via Substack in the comments section, by direct message, or by emailing me at chris@chriskjones.com.
I look forward to assembling my team and using the serialization publishing model as an alternative to traditional publishing.
Your help will be a big key to The Inevitable's success.
Thank you,
Chris K. Jones
Hello Wendy! That is amazing thank you so much! It means a lot to me that a fellow writer I respect would be willing to help me out. If at anytime the life takes over and you do not have time, please let me know. Life happens and you are doing me a big favor. One I'm happy to return if you ever need a sounding board. I do not see your email in my subscriber list. Can you send me an email to chris@chriskjones.com so I can give you access to the google doc, also please sign up for a free subscription and then I will move it to paid, you get a free paid subscription for your participation on the Advanced Reader Team (ART). I will also be sending you a free gift link to the full ebook of Shock & Denial, the first book in the Headcase series. It will actually be a big help if you DO NOT read book 1 because I want to see if someone, who starts on book 2 The Inevitable, can pick up the story and characters and get right into it without have reading the first. Kind of like Lee Childs' Jack Reacher series, you can pick up any of them without having of read the first one.
Thank you again Wendy!!
Chris K. Jones
I would be honored to be an advanced read. 🦕
